Gotta get down on... Sunday.

Two memes, one stolen from [livejournal.com profile] blue_fjords and the other because it caught my eye with its appropriateness:

you are aqua

Your dominant hues are green and blue. You're smart and you know it, and want to use your power to help people and relate to others. Even though you tend to battle with yourself, you solve other people's conflicts well.

Your saturation level is very high - you are all about getting things done. The world may think you work too hard but you have a lot to show for it, and it keeps you going. You shouldn't be afraid to lead people, because if you're doing it, it'll be done right.

Your outlook on life is very bright. You are sunny and optimistic about life and others find it very encouraging, but remember to tone it down if you sense irritation.

Lame - yet interesting - survey.

Feb. 1st, 2011 | 09:37 am
mood: sleepy sleepy
music: Radiohead - Everything in Its Right Place

The other night I had two of my dearest friends in the world round my flat for some drinks and Xbox funtimes, and at some point Luke brought up this question he'd found somewhere on the internet. It's likely that everyone else has seen this by now, because I'm often last to the gate, but it was such a good discussion-starter that I thought I'd share.

Which ONE of these ten magical items would you choose? Why?
  1. A pot that can produce 1,000 kilograms of any food a day.
  2. A bracelet that keeps weather perfect wherever you go and within a 250 kilometre radius.
  3. A necklace that allows you to touch books and instantly absorb knowledge from them, without reading.
  4. An unlimited bottle of perfume that will make you wildly attractive to the opposite sex (or same sex if you’re gay), which cannot be used on anyone you love.
  5. A watch that allows you to reverse time by a minute or less per day.
  6. A bell that when rang fixes any one object at a time, excluding living things, within a minute.
  7. A chocolate bar, with twelve pieces, that makes anyone who eats a single piece invincible and youthful until the age of 160.
  8. A no fuel required, maintenance free, eight person van that can take you anywhere on the planet within one second.
  9. A remote control that allows you and another person to change, superficially, into anyone you want; the effect lasts until you decide to revert.
  10. An immortal dog that poops out one gold coin every time it goes to the bathroom.
At the time, I said that I would likely choose #8, because I love to travel and never get to do enough of it due to time/financial constraints, but I'm still hung up on #7 (as, I suspect, would anyone). Apparently the condition is that you can a) share the chocolate or b) eat all twelve pieces yourself and live to the age of 1920, but I still dunno. Outliving my loved ones is a major phobia of mine, and I suppose I could then share the rest of the chocolate bar with them, but choosing who to let live would be hard, as would knowing everyone's expiry date. Plus I'm sure there'd be some kind of cult inquest if 12 people who knew each other dropped dead on the same day. Regarding #3 - Luke said he was surprised I didn't choose that one, but what kind of writer would want to absorb a book's information without being able to READ it? It'd make my job kind of redundant.

Did anyone else automatically think about changing into Jensen or Misha regarding #9? I did. I don't know how I'd be able to leave the house afterward, though, or step away from the mirror.

Anyway, I hope this is as entertaining to someone else as it was to me; but then again, I've been up since 6am and haven't finished my coffee yet.

Stolen from [info]cautionzombies[info]obstinatrix and no doubt a slew of other people by now.

Make a voice post with the following things so that your F-list can hear how you pronounce them (and laugh at you, of course):

- Your name and/or username
- Where you're from
- The words "roof", "aunt", "direction", and "naturally"
- Your favorite song
- Your favorite character
- A word in a different language

Voiceposting seems to be utterly fucked at the moment (probably because us nutters are crashing it), so I just uploaded a voice recording from my mobile to MediaFire. Sorry that you have to go through the trouble of downloading this just to hear my old hag's voice, but you can do so

Feel free to point and laugh now.

Lose ten talking bollocks by March.
Find a better fringe.
Keep my supernatural clean.
Spend less time on film.
Connect with my inner lost.
Give some alias to charity.

Dec. 30th, 2010 | 01:17 am

Stolen from [info]hils . Seemed appropriate as I leave another birthday behind.

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Started writing SPN and also a writing group in RL. Also started a book that I actually have a hope of finishing.

2. Did you keep your New Years' resolutions and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really make any New Years' resolutions. Instead, I took the typical "lose weight" and "find a significant other" options and did the opposite.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Yes, my cousin.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Not this year, but I'm still reeling from my father's death last year.

5. What countries did you visit?
None, not unless you count too many hours spent on Google Earth...

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
Serenity. And a published book.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
July 14th. It was the 1 year anniversary of my father's death, and the point at which I fully appreciated the human capacity to heal and the gift of time. It seems simple, but awe-inspiring to experience.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Being nominated to the Accessibility Services steering committee, which proposes and directs policy in this area for the entirety of my city's public library system. It's indescribable to have a hand in doing work that has such a tangible effect upon people's lives.

9. What was your biggest failure?
Not saving as much money as I could have, and not dismissing the self-criticisms that I could have done better without.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Was diagnosed with hypothyroidism.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A house, which I technically bought in '09 but that I'll be squeeing over for a while. Otherwise I bought a few really gorgeous pairs of shoes.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
That of my best friends, Luke and Dan. They continue to inspire, encourage and fill me with love. And my mother, though that should go without saying.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
People in general. Working with the public has this effect.

14. Where did most of your money go?
My house and my shoe habit. And also any of the 4 tattoos that I completed this year.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
The book that I began writing.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?
"Dinner at Eight" by Rufus Wainwright.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you: Happier or sadder? Thinner or fatter? Richer or poorer?
About the same. Maybe a bit more at peace.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Everything. There never seems to be enough time to do the things I love most. I didn't play enough music.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

20. How did you spend Christmas?
With my mother.

21. Did you fall in love in 2010?
No. I fell out of love, though for the better.

23. How many one-night stands?
Around 10? A few repeats that don't warrant an upgraded status. Don't tend to keep track.

24. What was your favourite TV program?
Fringe, Dexter, The Walking Dead, and Supernatural.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Not really.

26. What was the best book you read?
Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I got back into UNKLE, which was more of a timely re-discovery.

28. What did you want and get?

29. What did you want and not get?
A puppy? A book deal? Who knows. Fulfillment isn't motivating.

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Get Him to the Greek. I laughed so hard I couldn't talk for almost an hour afterwards. I'm sure I saw films with more artistic merit, but this one put such a smile on my face.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I just finished my 25th birthday an hour and 10 minutes ago. I went out with some people who made me feel loved.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Who knows? Seems like a waste of time to ponder regret.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Unique, comfortable, doesn't give a fuck.

34. What kept you sane?
My friends, my family, and my writing.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
A tie between Misha Collins and Jensen Ackles, though I think Jensen Ackles wins.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The repeal of DADT. I'm not American, but this made me cry.

37. Who did you miss?
My father. Desperately.

38. Who was the best new person you met?
[info]sansday  for all the stimulating and heartwarming discussion, but all my lovely LJ peeps as well.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010:
The preciousness of time can't be undervalued. Share your love, your life and your laughter without hesitation or regret.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"With all the changes you've been through, it seems the stranger's always you."
