Our town.

Oct. 22nd, 2011 | 11:04 pm

Sometimes I like to bitch about my city to an unbelievable extent, like when it takes me 2 hours to get home on a Saturday night because of random bullshit traffic, but a lot of the time I much prefer to wax poetic about Toronto because, at the end of the day, I really do love it so damn much.

I found this fantastic video that is a must-see for any fellow Torontonians out there, along with anyone else who is curious about the city, thinking of visiting, or has visited in the past and is simply looking to reminisce.

Let me wax poetic about my magic loofah. No seriously, let me.

Sep. 12th, 2011 | 01:27 pm

In some ways, I regret making what amounts to not only a non-fandom-related post, but a promotional post of a thing. But I cannot contain my silence any longer! I absolutely had to write something about this little device I bought about a month ago, that has literally changed my life.

I'm talking about my Clarisonic Mia.

Some serious squee below the cut. )

I can't contain myself. Y'all must simply head over to [livejournal.com profile] teh_helenables to read the work of the amazing [livejournal.com profile] helena_eternal, because... god damn. I haven't devoured so much of one author's work in one sitting like this in a long time, and I can't overstate how freaking amazing her work is. I love her controlled, subtle style and how it still manages to pack a whallop without resorting to purple language or overabundant description, and she has this knack for unearthing incredibly powerful emotions from the characters that have left me a bit winded on more than a couple occasions now.

The Violin House is her most recently posted story, and I'm not ashamed to say I cried like a little girl at the end, as well as through most of the beginning and middle. A wonderful, heart-wrenching story for these miserable days leading up to S7. I think most of you will have a hard time not going back to read everything else on her journal after that. I'm not going to lie - I'm hoping if enough of us get together and pressure her to finish some of the WIPs that are currently killing me (pot, meet kettle, I know), we'll have even more of this wonderful writing to relish in the near future.

So hop to it, chickens!

[livejournal.com profile] prettify's "All Your Yellow Brick Roads" EPUB (for <lj site="live

Jul. 14th, 2011 | 10:13 am

Hi all,

Because my response to
[info]prettify's submission to [info]spn_j2_bigbang, All Your Yellow Brick Roads, is still something akin to a chicken running around with its head cut off (in a good way!), I thought I'd share, with her permission, the EPUB version of the story I created for use on my e-reader. Those using an iPad or iPhone to read won't struggle too much with the PDF, but other e-readers either won't allow PDF zoom or, like the Kobo, do it quite poorly, and require a lot of panning back and forth if you prefer to read text larger than a baby ant.

With the EPUB format, which I think is supported by just about every type of e-reader out there, you can make the text bigger or smaller, and navigate the document by page or by chapter, which is handy if you become lost or want to go back to a specific part. The only apology I have to make in advance is that the metadata got a little screwed up in the conversion process, so that some of the paragraphs are broken up weirdly. It won't distract you, I promise; it'll just look like
[info]prettify really likes her some short paragraphs. :P Hopefully this will soon be available to download from the fic masterpost as well.

Poster Girl

Jul. 12th, 2011 | 10:15 pm

Got my Singer Salvage T-shirt recently... thought I'd share it with y'all because it's pretty sexy and for once the photo turned out nice. After futzing with some nifty iPhone effects my hair looks more brown than red, but that's what you get for having a futuristic phone of the future.

Think Bobby would hire me to be his spokeswoman?

eBook Covers!

Jun. 11th, 2011 | 11:16 am

This is kind of a random post, but for those of you fond of eBooks and in possession of an eReader, I thought I'd direct your attention to a great Etsy shop that sells the cutest little eReader covers you ever did see.

This is the one I got:

Adorable, n'est pas? The shop is called CW Creations - I have no affiliation with them whatsoever, so I'm not getting anything out of pimping their store, but if you're in the market for a sweet, high-quality cover, it's worth checking out. I was really impressed by the craftsmanship and the colour/pattern combinations, and am far more enamoured of the unique design than I would have been by one of the uninspired designs available through eReader retailers such as Best Buy or Chapters/Borders/Barnes & Noble, etc. They're a little on the pricey side, I admit, once you factor in shipping (within the US it's far more reasonable, about $5, but to Canada I had to fork over almost $12 in shipping), but I'm so happy with my purchase that I sort of don't mind. Most covers run at around $45, which is not much more than you'd pay for a generic folder cover in store. The best thing is, the covers fit most eReaders, and you can ask them to customize the size depending on what type of device you have at home.

Happy shopping!

In the spirit of helping those in need, I have made an offer for two buy-it-now fics in honour of the seriously lovely, talented and fabulous [info]plentyofowls, who is in need of some support. As someone who has been a privileged recipient of her amazing artwork, kindness and wicked sense of humour, I am all too happy to return the favour and help out in the best way I know how - in this case, offering some fic. If you're interested in contributing any creative works, please click the banner above and visit the comm.

My thread can be found here - my current offer is for two fics, either Dean/Castiel or Jensen/Misha, starting at $5 (USD)/1000 words. The fic can be as long or as short as you like (well, barring the minimum); each additional 1000 words is $5, so when you place your bid be sure to let me know your maximum amount. Unlike traditional auctions, the winning bids will belong two the first two people to post.

Check it out and support a good cause and a beloved fandom talent. Chop-chop!

Artwork for my fic, When Play Turns Bitter, by the astoundingly brilliant, generous and supportive [livejournal.com profile] daggomus_prime. Although the story isn't altogether done yet, I thought it would be a good idea to gather all of Dag's amazing artwork into one place for easy access, especially as new pieces get added.

Castiel: Back home, you're found out

I was listening to "The Runaway" by UNKLE on the way home, which happens to be one of my favourite songs and something I often listen to when writing porn (what? It's true). It could just be that I've had Cas on the brain for weeks, more than usual, but for the first time it struck me how this song really does fit him to a "T".

Have a listen.

I just finished my J2BB draft. What?

mood: ecstatic ecstatic

Aaaahhh you guys, I just finished my freaking [info]spn_j2_bigbang draft! I want to run around flailing and screaming my head off, except that I still have a good 30 000 words to write between now and the final deadline, since the second half is very much a DRAFT and mostly description.

But that doesn't matter, because I'm not out of the game yet! Whoohoo! I'm so excited to get back to writing the meat of the story, I can't even tell you. I think Bombora is going to end up being my favourite thing I've ever written.

43000 / 20000 (215.00%)

To the deadline, I say: BOOYAH, MOTHERFUCKER.

She surprised me this morning with the second piece of artwork for When Play Turns Bitter, and even though I knew what was coming, I didn't know what was coming, yaknowwhatimean? Anyway, nothing I say here will do it or my appreciation justice, so just take a look-see for yerself.

My wave garden brings all the boys to the yard

In the spirit of my [livejournal.com profile] spn_j2_bigbang AU, I thought I'd share this video of the most amazing thing I've ever seen in my life. My new life plan has officially expanded to include, "Purchase a lake and build a wave garden." I'm sure "Learn to surf" is on there too, don't worry.

If you're a big geek like me, you can check out more videos at Wave-Garden.com. If you already happen to be in possession of a lake, I expect this to be installed immediately. I shall await my invitation in the mail.

I have to do some reccing that may seem, inadvertently, like self-reccing, but trust me, I only have eyes for [info]daggomus_prime.

Her Awesomeness and I have been in discussion about artwork for When Play Turns Bitter over the past little while, and last night the first piece got posted. The scene depicts Dean and Kurt's first meeting at the bar, and... whoa. I had to get up at 5am just to go look at it, because I was that excited, and now I just can't stop staring at it for all its awesomeness. This is the best feeling ever, because I am a) way overattached to this story and b) way overattached to my OMC, but I couldn't have translated this scene more perfectly if I were an artist myself, she just nailed it so hard.

So, gushing aside (though there'll probably be more), please go check out the artwork. And then read the fic. If you want. (XD) But mostly go look at the artwork.
