TITLE: In the Weeds
AUTHOR: [livejournal.com profile] nanoochka
PAIRING(S): Dean/Cas, references to Sam/Ruby
RATING: NC-17
WORDCOUNT: 40,300
WARNINGS: Food porn, misuse of Irish accents
DISCLAIMER: Supernatural and all associated content is the property of Eric Kripke and The CW. No infringement intended.

SUMMARY: “Dean knew, from the minute he laid eyes on Chef Castiel MacCarthy, the day would come that he would have to kidnap the man and dump the body in the darkest, dirtiest crack den in Ireland. Given that this was Dublin city, it wouldn’t be hard to find.”

AUTHOR'S NOTES: There’s a certain sense of pride that comes with being able to say you finished writing a DCBB challenge with food poisoning, and maybe some pithy line about how it came in with a bang and out with sounds of misery from the bathroom floor.

Fortunately, the many days, weeks and indeed months leading up to the completion of this story were much more pleasant, and I’m as happy to say that I finished it as I am to thank the wonderful people who helped me (read: threatened at gunpoint) get there. They are, in some semblance of chronology, The Beatles and Zep for providing me with some semblance of sanity during marathon writing sessions; [livejournal.com profile] fossarian, who not only encouraged me to develop the idea so many months ago but graciously rolled with the unexpected developments along the way; [livejournal.com profile] glorormeien for letting me argue with her about food; [livejournal.com profile] qthelights and [livejournal.com profile] obstinatrix for the invaluable cheerleading, feedback and reassurance; [livejournal.com profile] cautionzombies and [livejournal.com profile] mclachlan for the truly outstanding betas and eleventh-hour workshopping; and finally [livejournal.com profile] daggomus_prime, who I didn’t expect to be partners in crime with again so soon, but was surely a twist of fate, for being endlessly enthusiastic, inspiring and delightful, and for having far more integrity than I thought was possible for one so small. ;)

Last but not least, a huge round of applause to [livejournal.com profile] hils and [livejournal.com profile] oddlyfamiliar for their many hours of hard work and dedication to pulling this challenge off without a hitch for yet another year, as well as being far more gracious, understanding and flexible than I probably deserved. Thanks for making it so that this story could still see the light of day.

To everyone else, I hope you enjoy the story you’re about to read!

My gut reaction to this: WOW.

I can't even tell you how much I loved it, how I enjoyed every second spent reading it. I mean, the characterizations alone left me breathless. You somehow made Dean working at a restaurant in Dublin not only plausible but totally natural. And just the thought of Castiel with an Irish accent is... Hnnng.

I could go on and on about how much I loved everything about this, but I feel the first sex scene needs a special mention. I had to go back and read it again just because it was SO DAMN HOT! I can't even... GOD.

You win. You win everything.
